About Jiranis Food

‘’Food is very representative of a city’s culture. In order to really get to know a place and the people, you’ve got to eat the food.’’

Emeril Lagasse

Welcome to Jiranis. Our talented team created Jiranis food to enable international and local tourists enjoy the cuisine unique to the places they tour.

Our Mission for Jiranis, (neighbor in Swahili) is that you get to be hosted by the locals of the area you are in, experience and learn the intricacies of their food traditions and rich ethnic heritage.

Your hosts will be small local specialty restaurants, families , farmers and anyone who enjoys cooking African cuisines, who best know the food and cuisines, and give you a sense of the community you are touring.

How the idea was born

Our CEO and founder Mr. Peter Muchemi, a software engineer, while visiting Dar es alaam Tanzania, eagerly wanted to try authentic local dishes.

After numerous disappointing visits to different restaurants all promising to deliver home cooked meals, he and his friends decided to approach a local woman and asked whether she would be willing to make them local dishes for a fee. When she agreed, she became the inspiration for the business model.

Mr. Muchemi labored to create a platform that offers tourists and locals alike a chance to connect with the locals and enjoy amazing food.
